Science

Our learning this term is around the science topic of weather. We had a great visit to the Otago Museum where the focus was on Wild Weather. It was exciting to make clouds, measure the wind , make rainbows and watch how lightning is made.

It was great to have so many hands on activities to help our understanding and to make the topic interesting.

We have taken some of this learning and have written some reports on weather. identifying the main sections of a report was the first step that we needed to do. Information gathering took us a while as sometimes we had to re-word our questions. Some of us then thought about how we could present our work.

You can now read some of these on our walls. Come up and have a read.

Enviro school day

Swimming

A busy way to start the term. Swimming.

It was a great block of swimming that the whole school took part in. Everyone had goals that they were working towards. Arms, legs, kicking, breathing and developing how many length they could complete.

Jill and the teachers really took us through our paces to achieve these goals. Although we were tired at the end of the week our goal s were slowly beginning achieved.

We are looking forward to the next block of swimming as we have already set the goals for those.

Back on the Blogger

We are back with a new year and a new class. So much has happened with our learning and our school. We look forward to telling you all about it. Enjoy the read.

Our Trip To Ross Creek

On Tuesday the 30th of November the year 6 children went to Ross Creek. We went to the top in a bus and walked down the track. It was a long walk. After we had morning tea in groups of 4, we got to go across a bridge and to a building that was in the middle of the water. Next we walked to the Woodhaugh Gardens. It was still drizzling when we arrived. Next once everyone had finished lunch we walked back in pairs to school. It was fun walking around Ross Creek. When we got back to school we all got 10 minutes play. Now we are doing our bookwork. Finally we will be getting prepared to go to Warrington tomorrow.

Day 2 of E.O.T.C Week

On Monday the 29th of November the year 6 pupils started their E.O.T.C. week. The first thing we participated in was a scavenger hunt around the school. We had to look for a feather, a four leaf clover, count how many tyres in the bottom playground and many other things like that.

After interval we went into two groups. One group stayed in the class and did first aid the other group went up to the top field and did tent pitching. Some people found it hard but others thought it was really easy.

At the first aid we had to get a partner and bandage their foot like they twisted their ankle. After lunch we did a thing called Mission Impossible. One task was quite hard but it wasn’t impossible for everyone. The challenge was to get a box off a platform with ropes in to a metal basket without it touching the sides. The second challenge was to get from one hoop to the other hoop that was on the other side of the field by getting along a plank then you walked across it to get to the next tyre. If you fell off you had to go back to the start. Most people fell off because some tyres had 2 people in it so it was harder. It was a really good day.
